A late second half comeback attempt fell just short for the Simpson men’s basketball team Tuesday evening, as the Storm fell to Wartburg 69-64 in their season opener. The Storm fell behind early and would stay behind for much of the first half, trailing 39-28 at the break and by as much as 16 until a 21-9 run put the Storm right back in the contest trailing 65-61 with minutes remaining. Wartburg held on the for the win however, scoring four points to seal the win. The Knights outrebounded the Storm 54-35, including a 20-5 advantage in second chance points. Kade Tatkenhort led the Storm with 16 points, while Chris Honz earned a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. The Storm are now 0-1 on the season, and will next host Coe College in their home opener in non-conference play.
