indianola-3

The Indianola basketball squads will host a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon, with Sioux City West making the long road trip across the state. The Indians girls have won 10 in a row since a season opening loss, and remain at #14 in the latest class 5A rankings, with a 22-point average winning margin over their last five contests. The Indians boys are also on a winning streak having won their last five contests, and face a young Wolverines squad that is 4-3 on the season. Indians head coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports his team will continue to see success if they work on the defensive end of the ball.

“Defensive intensity is something we haven’t done at all this year, and something we are hoping to see and something we are trying to get better at. Our defense is playing well, but it’s not at an elite level yet but we are still getting better. To keep up the defensive intensity is what we hope for.”

The games can be heard live today on 94.3 KNIA, with Andrew Swadner and Rick Wilson on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage begins at 2:15pm, with tip-off set for 2:30.

The Indianola wrestling team concludes their busy week with a trip to Ankeny for a tournament. The Indians will be competing against 12 other schools at the event, including local rivals Johnston, Norwalk, and Oskaloosa. Action starts today at noon.
