pleasantville-3

Pleasantville’s basketball teams split a West Central Conference doubleheader Monday against Interstate-35. The girls came out on top 34-17, but the boys dropped their fifth game out of six losing 57-54.

The Trojans girls put forth another fantastic defensive effort, allowing less than 20 points in their second consecutive game. Pleasantville also got another hot shooting night from Adi Adreon, who had 14 points including two three-pointers. Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA Sports that Adreon’s confidence is helping this team get back in the win column.

“I think it’s a lot to do with confidence. That game we played against Albia, she had some shots go in and we have been working on some stuff in practice. She can get off a little quicker and she that first couple in tonight, and once they go in, the rim looks bigger. Then she got some putbacks on the other end in the second half. It’s important that we have somebody that gets us 18 or 19 every game and then let the rest of them get six or eight and just pick up the pieces as we have been.”

With the win, the Trojans are back at .500 at 6-6 on the season.

Pleasantville’s boys dropped another close game, putting their record at 4-6 on the season. Caylor Clark led the Trojans in scoring with 18 points, including 15 in the second half. Mason Scheve chipped in 16, including two three-pointers in the loss. The Trojans were down by nine in the third quarter and fought back to take the lead, but Scheve missed a three at the buzzer to force overtime. Coach Tom Wilkins tells KNIA Sports that his press defense was the difference in the loss.

“I told the guys the last four games we have pressed and have been successful. I thought we were successful in the front of the press, but as soon as they got across halfcourt, they just drove right at us. I think there were three consecutive and-ones to start the third quarter.”

Pleasantville will have a quick turnaround as they have a West Central Conference doubleheader tonight at home against Earlham. The doubleheader begins with the girls’ game tipping off at 6:00 PM. The games will be broadcast on the KNIA3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch on the call.
