The second round of the Little Hawkeye Conference basketball season begins tonight on Eagle Lane as Pella Christian welcomes Norwalk.

The Warriors’ swept the Eagles on December 4th with a 52-50 4th quarter comeback in the girls game for Norwalk and 79-56 domination over Pella Christian.

Warriors Head Coach Jill Martin says her team is playing well, and the focus needs to be on what they’re doing, as opposed to focusing on the opponent.

“All of our conference games are tough. You’ve got to be prepared and do your job. We had a great, competitive game, only won by two last time, and we need to make some adjustments. ‘Be us’ is the big part.”

Norwalk has won four straight in the series, and will look to stay in the upper half of the conference standings with a win.

On the boys side, the Warriors enter with the momentum of two wins earlier this week after defeating Carlisle and Grinnell at home on Monday and Tuesday. The Eagles are also playing well, having won four of their last five, with the lone loss coming to Pella. It proved to be a mismatch the last time these teams met, as Norwalk ran all over Pella Christian in the second quarter and for the rest of the night. Head Coach Chris Larson recognizes that Pella Christian is on an upswing, but feels confident as long as his team can continue to play smart basketball.

“We know they’re playing a lot better, and I think we talked about that after the game here with them. They’ve got a good ball club, they’re big and physical. One thing I’ve been really happy with is how we’ve been rebounding this year, and our guys do a good job. We’re going to have to continue to space on offense and do a good job with that, create some driving lanes for ourselves, and knock down some shots. As long as we come out with that energy and effort, we’ll be in a good spot.”

Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS.
