A former Knoxville athletic standout was back in town over the weekend watching the Panthers, and more importantly her younger brother play. Katie Keitges, who now plays on the University of Omaha Women’s Basketball squad, is in her freshman season with the Mavericks. She tells KNIA/KRLS Sports this season is a time to learn and get used to a different role than what she was used to during her high school days.

Keitges:
“Right now I’m just trying to soak it in and be the best teammate I can be and roles change and I’m trying to be the best teammate and when I get my chance I go out there and get back in the groove a little bit.”

Omaha was on a bye weekend which afforded Keitges to come back home last weekend. Currently she is averaging one point per game, playing in five games and starting two and averaging around seven minutes played per game. Keitges has grabbed three rebounds and has scored five total points. The Mavericks are currently 1-8 overall and will not be in action again until February 6th when they host Western Illinois. This weekend’s games against South Dakota have been cancelled. Listen for a full interview with Keitges on tonight’s Radio Sports Page on KNIA/KRLS at 6:00.
