The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in special session Friday to discuss the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 budget. Auditor Jake Grandia shared numerous data points with the supervisors, and members of the board and county staff shared their comments. Board Chair Mark Raymie says that he would like to see economic growth in the county, which he hopes will occur through ventures such as the VA Campus redevelopment and Prairie Ridge projects.
“We have to grow in a reasonable way. We have to attract businesses if we want to support the kind of lifestyle our residents like. That goes to the type of law enforcement we have, the offices in our courthouse, the updating of our courthouse, roads, bridges, parks, that costs money. That’s what all this is linked to. If you have economic prosperity and increasing valuations, it feels good. But you’ve got to grow your base, and we haven’t grown our base in a while.”
