Two local women’s college basketball teams met in Pella Wednesday evening, as Central played host to Simpson in a battle of undefeated teams. It was the Storm extending their series win streak against the Dutch to 39 games, with a 77-61 final, as aired on KRLS3.

After the teams traded buckets for the first few minutes, Simpson gained a sizeable advantage with a 23-12 lead after the first quarter. The teams largely went blow for blow the rest of the way, but the story of the night was Central’s cold shooting from three-point range. The Dutch went just 4-31 from downtown, while connecting on 32.9 percent of their total shots. Central Head Coach Joe Steinkamp says it’s tough to beat a team of Simpson’s caliber with such cold shooting.

Sophomore Carson Fisk led the Dutch in scoring with 19 points, and was the only Central player in double figures. Payton Rogers pulled in 10 rebounds to lead on the boards. Senior Jenna Taylor paced the Storm with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Cameron Kincaid was not too far behind with 17 points. Each team had 16 assists, and the turnover battle was dead even at 14 apiece. Each team had five total blocks, and Simpson won the rebounding battle 49-47.

Central drops to 3-1 overall and in conference play, and returns to action Saturday at Coe for an 11:00 a.m. tipoff. Simpson improves to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play, and returns home Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff against Dubuque. Hear that game on 94.3 KNIA.
