Nine area wrestlers from Knoxville and PCM will head to ADM today for a shot at the state meet as the class 2A districts get underway. The four wrestlers from Knoxville are Marco Alejo at 113 pounds, Daniel Gorskikh at 126 pounds, Luke Spaur at 132 pounds, and Gavin Montalvo at 182 pounds. Coach Doug Hatch tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the young wrestlers have an uphill battle but it is not out of the question to see them make the state meet.

Hatch:
“We’re going in there with four guys that are very young and a lot of excitement from these guys. A tough district which means you’re probably going to have to beat someone who’s beaten you this season.”

For PCM the Mustangs will take five wrestlers to the district including Remington Fry at 106 pounds, Landon Fenton at 145 pounds, Colby Tool at 152 pounds, Cooper Sloan at 220 pounds, and Kinser Sloan at 285 pounds. PCM Coach Jeff Nicholson tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he has been impressed with the progress of his team all season.

Nicholson:
“Everybody came to wrestle. This has been a fun bunch to work with this year. They’ve continued to exceed our expectations. It’s really neat to see these kids exceed the expectations so I’m really proud of this group of kids.”

The top two individuals at each district will qualify for the state meet nets week.
