The Pella Police Department is asking residents who have outdoor security cameras to register with dispatch to help with potential investigations.
Officer Bryce Doane says after recent incidents involving car thefts, the department is trying to make their canvassing process more efficient by getting a list of cameras across the community through a city-wide voluntary surveillance camera registration program.
Doane says this does not mean the department has full access to a camera — this is just a means for residents to let police know they have one, and each incident would require owners’ consent before access and use in an investigation.
