A Pleasantville man faces felony charges after an incident Friday evening at his residence. At approximately 9:30 p.m., Pleasantville police and Marion County deputies responded to the residence of 58-year-old Randall Rife for the report of a verbal domestic disturbance. Officers made contact with Rife and the alleged victim, who were both heavily intoxicated at the time. Both parties agreed to stay in separate areas of the residence for the night.

Less than an hour later, officers were called back to the scene by a third party, who advised officers that the victim had been strangled. Officers spoke with the victim, who claimed that Rife strangled her. Rife denied strangling the victim. While there was no evidence of the victim being strangled, she did have a bleeding cut near her eye, which was not present when officers responded earlier in the evening. It was discovered that the two were allegedly involved in a physical altercation in the basement, causing the victim’s injuries.

Rife was arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail. He is charged with Domestic Abuse Assault third or subsequent offense, a Class D felony. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 25th.
