The South Central Conference may be expanding. Cardinal of Eldon has officially applied to join the now seven team conference with Knoxville, Clarke, Chariton, Albia, Davis County, Centerville, and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. Right now, all schools in the South Central Conference are discussing how it would affect scheduling and their individual sports. Knoxville Activities Director Ryan Paulsen tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he is talking with the Knoxville coaches to gauge their interest in accepting a new member into the conference.
Paulsen:
“How does that impact your sport, how does that impact the school, and how does that impact your profile as a school. The board should make a decision by the April 12th meeting if not at the second board meeting but that will be a decision we will make this month.”
If Cardinal is accepted into the South Central Conference, the Comets would start play in the 2022/2023 school year. Cardinal currently has all varsity sports with the exception of golf, soccer, and tennis.
