Five Central College athletes across three different sports were named the American Rivers Conference performers of the week late Monday night. The Dutch football team swept the three awards for its sport as quarterback Blaine Hawkins earned the offensive performer of the week, defensive lineman Blade Durbala was honored on defense and kicker Logan Sunvold was chosen for special teams. Sydni Huisman was the league’s softball pitcher of the week and jumper Brock Lewis was selected as the field event performer for men’s track and field.

In Central’s 49-14 win over Simpson, Hawkins threw for four touchdowns while completing 21 of his 27 passes. The 2019 A-R-C Offensive MVP has won the weekly award five times. Durbala had 3.0 sacks and 5.0 tackles-for-loss despite. A first team all-conference performer in 2019, Durbala’s tackles-for-loss amounted to 25 yards lost for Simpson. Sunvold went 5-5 on PATs and sent three of his seven kickoffs for touchbacks. The Dutch football travels to Nebraska Wesleyan Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.

Huisman started three games last week, tossing 18 total innings and allowing just one earned run. She earned the win in all three games, including a complete game shutout in the final game of the Luther series. She struck out 11 and walked three while scattering 12 hits. Central has a softball doubleheader at Simpson on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Lewis swept the long jump and triple jump at the Central Invitational. He triple jumped 46 feet, 1.5 inches and long jumped 23-3.5. He’s currently No. 4 in Division in the long jump and No. 13 in the triple jump. Central is competing at the Spartan Invitational in Dubuque on Friday and Saturday.
