A bill recently signed into law by Governor Kim Reynolds allows gun owners to carry without permits. State Senator Amy Sinclair voted in favor of the bill, and tells KNIA/KRLS News that this has caused misleading and inaccurate information to arise, and that background checks are still performed.

“There’s a lot of misinformation floating about that says there’s no longer background checks, or that any person with a mental health condition or someone with felony convictions could carry without a permit. That’s just inaccurate. All of those laws are still in place. In fact, background checks are still a requirement. So to say that just because Iowa now has the option for law-abiding gun owners to carry without a permit in no way eliminates those other checks and balances in our system of laws related to firearms.”
