The American Rivers Conference softball tournament gets in full swing today with pods hosted by Coe and Wartburg, and Central College is in Waverly today joining the host Knights, Dubuque and Nebraska Wesleyan.

The Dutch wrapped up an inconsistent regular season with an 18-12 record and took third place in the league standings with a 15-9 mark.  Central does not have NCAA playoff aspirations, as Coe clinched the automatic berth by winning the regular season, and the Dutch resume isn’t good enough to stack up with other teams throughout the country, even if they were to win this weekend’s tournament.  Coach George Wares is hoping for a strong finish to a challenging season.

“I wouldn’t be stunned if we win it and I wouldn’t be stunned if we lose two and go home.  I don’t say that in a negative way, that’s just kind of the way our team has been and the way this league has been.”

Central plays Nebraska Wesleyan at 10:00 this morning to kick off the four-team double-elimination pod.  They’ll play again at either 2:00 or 4:00 this afternoon against Dubuque or Wartburg.  You can hear both games live on the KRLS3 stream at www.kniakrls.com and our free mobile app.
