Melcher-Dallas’ Reed Falls Short of State Tournament Berth, Finishes 9th

Melcher-Dallas senior Kynser Reed fell two strokes short of qualifying for the state tournament as she finished ninth.

Reed, the only Saint that advanced as an individual, will end her golf career with a score of 98 in her district meet at North Mahaska. Reed finished ninth overall, finishing behind Breanna Benge and Kristen Roe of Pleasantville, and Lily Schmidt of Sigourney.

This concludes Reed’s golf career, as she will now focus on her final softball season with Melcher-Dallas.

Melcher-Dallas Softball Opens Season With Victory, Has Doubleheader as Baseball begins season at Lamoni

Melcher-Dallas’ softball squad opened the season with an impressive 6-2 victory at ACGC Monday, and will be part of a doubleheader with the Saints’ baseball team tonight against Lamoni.

The Saints were led by a complete game from BrieAnna Remster, as she finished with 12 strikeouts and gave up four hits. Riley Enfield finished two for four with a double, a run scored and two RBIs. Kynser Reed finished two for three with an RBI. Melcher-Dallas will be back in action with their first Bluegrass Conference game against Lamoni tonight.

The Saints’ baseball team has nowhere to go but up after finishing with one win in 2020, which was over Seymour. Melcher-Dallas has a tall task to open the season against last year’s Bluegrass Conference Champion, Lamoni. A bright spot for Melcher-Dallas will be the return of top hitters Ryan Krpan, Owen Mann, and Cole Metz. Coach Pat Ferguson tells KNIA Sports that he recognizes how dominant Lamoni has been over the past few years.

“They have had some tremendous athletes at Lamoni over the last few years. They are going to be solid.”

The Saints will begin doubleheader action with the baseball game at 5:30 PM.
