The Norwalk softball team earned a doubleheader sweep of Pella Wednesday evening, with game 2 airing on 94.3 KNIA. After an 8-0 victory in game 1, the Warriors battled from behind for a 10-7 win in game 2.

Norwalk started with a run scored in the first, only to be answered by two Lady Dutch runs in the second, their first scores of the evening. Pella extended the lead to 5-1 after 4 ½, but three runs in the bottom of the fifth and six in the sixth were enough to take the lead for good and seal the win. Norwalk junior Morgan Weeks had three hits and drove in three runs, and says it was a resilient performance by her team.

Four players had two base hits for Pella. Kiki Riggen was the starting pitcher for the Dutch in game 2, giving up 15 hits, 10 runs and five walks while striking out three. Kady Vandemark was the winning pitcher for Norwalk, giving up nine hits, six runs and four walks while recording one strikeout. Norwalk improves to 4-2 overall and starts Little Hawkeye Conference play 2-0, while Pella drops to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

On the baseball diamond, Norwalk used an explosive third inning to take an insurmountable lead, for a 9-5 win in game 1. Pella scored two runs in the sixth of game 2, and earned a 2-1 victory despite Norwalk pitcher Vinnie Mauro throwing a no-hitter. Mason Wittmer gave just three hits for Pella in seven innings, with five strikeouts.

Casey Greenlee had four base hits on the night to lead Norwalk, while Jason Knox had three to lead the Dutch. Norwalk moves to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while Pella is now 4-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Up next, Pella travels to Newton Friday, while Norwalk heads to Oskaloosa Friday.
