Despite a pair of tighter contests than their trip to Dallas Center earlier this summer, the Eagles summer teams fell to the Mustangs, with the baseball team dropping a 6-4 game and the softball girls falling to the No. 5 in 4A DCG girls 11-6 in a varsity game heard live on 92.1 KRLS Wednesday.

In both games, the Eagles gave up two runs in the top of the first inning, and each time, P.C. responded. In the softball game, it was a three-run home run from Natalie Harrill.

The ranked Mustangs offense was relentless through the remainder of the game, which included a four-run 4th inning that chased pitcher Alexa Dunsbergen. Pella Christian would get another rally going, which included an RBI double from Harrill, but DCG would add a three-run frame in the 6th to pull away. Harrill believes playing this elite competition will only make them more prepared for the postseason run.

FULL INTERVIEW WITH HARRILL, FAITH KACMARYNSKI:

Over on the baseball diamond, after tying the game in the bottom of the 1st, the Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the 2nd. However, errors plagued the Eagles in the 5th inning, before giving up two more runs in the 7th. Micah DeHaan pitched 6 ⅔ innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out eight Mustangs, and Ty Vander Molen was 2-for-3 from the plate.

The Eagles baseball team falls to 7-16 overall and 4-11 in the conference, and the P.C. softball team drops to 10-14 and 3-12 against league foes. Both are off until traveling to Newton for two games Friday.
