The Indianola City Council held a study session regarding the reinstatement of the Human Relations Commission at their most recent meeting, working to reestablish the commission in the city that became defunct in the late 90’s. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the Human Relations Commission will serve as a resource and outlet for the community to connect the city with other entities and organizations in the area.

“Education programs for the community, assisting other stakeholders, the schools, other partners in the community if needed. And then if somebody has an issue where they feel they have been wronged, the commission would work with them on getting to the Iowa Civil Rights Commission to file a form of process. A kind of resource center for anyone in the community.”
