Typically the sport of baseball is not the most dangerous sport to play. Sure there are risks involved, but usually one’s life is not risked. That all changed on July 7th, 2020 for Knoxville Baseball Player Trenton Kingery when he dove head first into home base at Bondurant-Farrar’s baseball field. A freak accident would put Kingery’s life in danger, but he was able to pull through and return to the very field nearly a year later this past July 6th which is our #9 sports moment for Knoxville. After he suffered the injury Kingery tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he knew something was not right.

Kingery suffered a collapsed lung, three shattered ribs, a cut colon, his spleen was in five pieces, and by the time he went in for surgery, he had lost a pint of blood. Kingery spent a week and a half in the hospital, and he says it took at least six months for him to be able to play baseball again. Kingery adds it was a bit surreal to come back to the very field he nearly lost his life on.

And get the win the Panthers and Kingery did. He went 1/3 at the plate with an RBI, and two walks. He even pitched for 1 2/3 innings, and the best part? Knoxville won in come-from-behind style 11-7. Kingery would finish the season as one of Knoxville’s top hitters batting .312 with 34 hits, 23 RBI, a home run and was the co-leader in walks earned with 24
