With hot weather in the forecast this week, the potential for buckling on area roadways is increased. Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian says the severity can range from minor to major due to a variety of factors, and dangerous situations can occur.

“Either situation can be dangerous because vehicles traveling over those crumbs can throw them onto other vehicles or create loose gravel situations for motorcyclists. The severe bump or ramp can be dangerous for any type of vehicle. We’ll get out there right away. Sometimes it’s a matter of sweeping the pavement off and maybe applying some cold-mix asphalt. Sometimes we’ll do immediate pavement removal and replacement. Other times we’ll just do pavement removal and it may get a gravel patch until we can come back at a later date or the next day and do a concrete patch.”

Christian says to notify his office of any sections of roadway that need treatment, and he reminds motorists to use caution, especially in untreated areas.
