Lifesaving awards were presented to first responders at Monday’s Knoxville City Council meeting. Battalion Chief Trenton Bacus, Lieutenant Spencer McCarty, Firefighter/EMT Miranda Ayers, and Knoxville Raceway Safety Crew member Shantel Des Planque were honored for their response to a spectator who suffered cardiac arrest while attending the SRX practice race on June 18th. Chief Cal Wyman says these individuals worked as a team and put their training to good use.
“This is what people train for. Going through all the classes and training, they tell you the chance of saving someone’s life is one in a million. It doesn’t happen all that often. So when everything goes right and it works, it’s time we recognize those people for a job well done. They put all their training and talents to use, and it worked.”
Wyman also says that if it weren’t for their efforts, the outcome for the patient would have been drastically different. Read more here.
