It has been said that to make a run to the state meet, a team needs a lot of experience, and several senior members. The Knoxville Boys Golf Squad this past spring was very young, and not a lot of experience in high school meets. But that did not stop the Panthers from making the class 3A State Meet and finishing 6th, and is our #1 sports moment for the last school year at Knoxville The Panthers ran through the sectional and district winning both led by two freshmen and a sophomore. One of the freshmen, Evan Smith said they had confidence to get to state and it was great to see it happen.
Smith:
“I think we all knew we had a chance, and when we posted our scored and I think we knew we had a chance coming in.”
The Panthers were led by Smith’s 8th place finish carding a two day total of 156. Also making the state roster were Carson Uitermarkt, Beau Leisure, Kail Arkema, Jace Nichols, and Mason Hatch. Nichols was the only senior on the team this spring.
