The bi-partisan infrastructure bill currently being debated in the United States Congress includes childcare support for workers who were forced to leave the workforce to take care of their children during the pandemic. Congresswoman Cindy Axne tells KNIA News men and women were impacted by the pandemic, but by and large women were the primary caregivers for kids at home and it is impacting the Iowa workforce.

“We had about 4 million women who left the workforce, and we are still down about 2 million women who left the workforce and haven’t re-entered and they need support. When Iowa is one of the states with the most two-parent working families, it means we need to support those women, because those women support our families, and when our families have the funding they need they will support their communities. This will help with that.”
