indianola-3

In a matchup of two top-ten teams in Class 4A, Indianola’s football team came away with a dominating victory over Glenwood, 52-16.

The Indians struck first on their first drive of the game with a four-yard touchdown run from Kael Kolarik. After Glenwood’s Cody Krause responded on the opening kickoff with an 85-yard touchdown, Carter Erickson scored his first touchdown of the night with a 40-yard pick-six. Kolarik added his second touchdown of the night with a two-yard run. Right before halftime, Erickson struck again with his biggest of the play of the night, a 93-yard kickoff return touchdown to make it 28-10 Indianola at halftime.

The second half saw Glenwood chip into the lead, making it a 12-point game midway through the third quarter. After that, the Indians scored the final 24 points of the night. Drew Kingery had both of his touchdowns in the third quarter and finished the night with 166 receiving yards. The game was capped off with Matt Edgington galloping for a 98-yard touchdown run with six minutes left in the game. Coach Eric Kluver states that regardless of the victory, he would like to see improvements from his team in the running game.

“We throw the ball, score a touchdown and they would not get out of packing the box and stopping the run. So that’s a little bit more frustrating because we want to run the football and be more balanced.”

The Indians ran for 178 yards, 98 of them coming on Edgington’s run in the fourth quarter. Overall, Indianola gained 368 yards of total offense, with 180 of them passing from quarterback Bennett Brueck. Next week, Indianola will have another tough matchup on the road as they travel to Pella.
