In a Little Hawkeye Conference battle between Class 4A’s #13 ranked Indianola and Pella Christian, the Indians rode a wave of momentum early to come out on top with a sweep 25-8, 25-22, and 25-22.

The conference match set the stage for an electric atmosphere on Eagle Lane, as both fan bases brought energy all night, something that Eagles senior outside hitter Sarah Gritters said provided a spark on the court.

“It’s super helpful. Volleyball is a really big sport of momentum, and when the student section gets loud and all the fans get super excited, that helps a lot. And they keep on reminding you that it’s ok and you got the next one and that’s just always super helpful, especially with how mental of a sport volleyball can be.”

Lauren Blake was all over the court for the Indians recording seven kills, 12 assists, and five digs. Brynn Bishop recorded 13 digs to lead the Indianola defense, while Emma Kluver and Tori Runyan each contributed three aces in the victory. For the Eagles, Freshman Chloe Huisman did it all recording 13 assists, two kills, two aces, and four digs. Trinity Vos contributed seven kills, a block, and an ace in the Eagles loss.

Indianola improved their record to 7-4 on the season with the victory and 2-0 in the conference, while the loss dropped the Eagles record to 2-7 and kept them winless in league competition. The Indians will return to action on Saturday at the Southeast Polk Metro Classic. The Eagles are off until Tuesday when they travel to Grinnell.
