The Simpson women’s golf team began their season with a third place finish at the Clarke Fall Invitational Wednesday afternoon, shooting a team score of 381. Freshman Madeline Streicher and Taylor Elam collected a pair of top-four finishes in their debut shooting an 88 and an 89 respectively. Simpson next competes in Marion for the two-day Mount Mercy Fall Classic.
The Storm women’s soccer team picked up an overtime win over Knox in their home opener at Buxton Stadium 2-1. Freshman Liz Naasz scored her first career goal to start the scoring, before going scoreless in the second half while giving up a goal going into overtime. In the extra period, Cassie Nash drew a penalty and freshman Maddie Hays hit the back of the net to win the contest. The Storm are now 2-1-0 and visit Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday.
The Storm men fell to Carleton on the road 4-1. Baraka Ellie scored the Storm’s only goal, and Simpson faced the three goal deficit despite only being edged in shots 14-13. Simpson falls to 2-1-0 and host St. Mary’s Saturday.
