PCM’s volleyball squad swept Saydel for their second Heart of Iowa conference win, while the football squad will take a trip to Iowa Falls-Alden for their first district matchup of the season.

The Mustangs’ volleyball squad knocked off Saydel in straight sets Thursday night, knocking off the Eagles with set scores of 26-24, 25-16, and 25-16. Sidney Shaver finished with 26 of the Mustangs’ 29 assists, while also mustering two kills and five digs. Chelsea Bird barely missed a double-double as she had 11 kills and eight digs. RaeAnn Duinink also had eight digs on the night. Riley Johannes had nine kills and eight digs in the victory. PCM had 32 kills and 44 digs against Saydel. The win puts PCM at 6-11 on the season and 2-3 in Heart of Iowa Conference play. The next time PCM takes the court is Saturday, when they travel to North Mahaska.

The Mustangs’ football squad have struggled the last couple of weeks, putting up just 15 points in their last two games after putting up 30 against Davis County. The 1-2 record has dropped PCM out of the top 10 in Class 2A. With losses to No. 10 in Class 4A Newton and No. 4 in Class 1A Pella Christian, PCM will try to move forward and focus on the Cadets. A bright spot to look for is Aidan Anderson playing in his second game back from his broken leg he suffered last year. Coach Greg Bonnett states that there are some similarities between his team and his opponent.

“From a defensive coordinator perspective it seems like they are in a situation like we are where they had some struggles early. They were playing one kid at quarterback who is kind of like (Carson) Vandelune who is a weapon they know they can use, but is quarterback the most efficient spot for him?”

Kickoff at Iowa Falls-Alden High School will be at 7:30 PM. The game will be broadcast on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch and Jeff Lindsay on the call.
