The Indianola Golf and Country Club held a dedication event to former pro golfer and Indianola native Steve Spray Monday morning, naming the entry drive as “Steve Spray Lane” with former pros and family on location. Stephanie Spray, Steve’s daughter, tells KNIA News Indianola was always home even if he didn’t live there, and it would have meant a lot to him to see the club where he learned how to play honor him in such a fashion.

“Whenever he would play well and they would interview him, and whenever they asked him where he came from, he would always answer Indianola. He would say he was from Indianola, and he grew up and played golf at the Indianola Country Club. It always brought him such pride to say he was from Indianola. So today for them to honor him in this way, it really is full circle. It’s just such an amazing day, I am blown away by so many different things that this group of people at the club did.”

Spray passed away in 2020, and Stephanie also said many of his friends were not able to make it to the funeral due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so today was a great opportunity for them to get together and honor his life.
