PCM’s volleyball squad finished the season with a thrilling victory over South Hamilton, three sets to two, while the football squad will take a trip northwest to Story County to take on the Roland-Story Norsemen.

The Mustangs’ volleyball squad won the match 25-22, 25-23, 24-26, 13-25, 15-10. Behind clutch hitting and resilient play, PCM closed the regular season with a victory. Chelsea Bird had one of her best matches of the season as she finished with a double-double, accumulating 16 kills and 22 digs. Bird was also one of four Mustangs that had ten or more digs on the night. Sidney Shaver also had a double-double with 30 assists and 12 kills. Claire Wilson had 15 digs and six kills in the victory. PCM will finish the regular season with a 12-21 record and a 3-4 record in Heart of Iowa Conference play. The next time the Mustangs take the court will be Monday for their first round playoff matchup at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. The match will begin at 7:00 PM.

PCM’s football squad is coming into tonight’s game with a 3-4 record and a 2-2 record in Class 2A District 7 play. The Mustangs are coming off an impressive second-half performance last week, knocking off Chariton 35-7. Aiden Anderson had a productive night against the Chargers, getting 139 yards and a touchdown on just 14 touches. If PCM wins tonight, they will clinch the number three seed in their district behind No. 3 in Class 2A West Marshall and Iowa Falls-Alden. Coach Greg Bonnett tells KRLS Sports that his main focus is stopping Roland-Story’s explosive offense.

“For us to win, we’re gonna have to totally disrupt their offensive scheme and then do what we can on offense. I really think our offensive personnel can have success against their defense. Their offense is a little bit more of a threat to me. We just need to make sure we are in the right spots and then we get in the right spots that we are making the plays that we need to make in order to create the turnovers to get the ball back to our offense.”

The two teams have met ten times, and PCM leads the series 6-4. The Mustangs have won the last four matchups with the Norsemen. The last time the two teams met was back in 2019, when PCM won 19-6. The last time Roland-Story beat PCM was in 2005.

Pre-game will begin at 6:30 PM and Kickoff is at 7:30 PM. The game will be broadcast on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com with Alex Koch and Jeff Lindsay on the call.
