indianola-3

The Indianola football team could not hold on to an early second half lead as their season came to a close Friday night, falling in the quarterfinal round to Lewis Central 35-21 heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians and Titans battled back and forth in the first half, Lewis Central scoring first and leading 7-0 after the first quarter, and the Indians answering early in the second on a Kael Kolarik 1-yard rushing touchdown. Lewis Central would score again, only for the Indians to answer again on a Bennett Brueck to Drew Kingery 6-yard passing score to make it 14-14 at halftime.

Just two plays into the third quarter, Brueck found Carter Erickson down the field for a 67-yard touchdown play for the Indians to take a 21-14 lead, but that would be the last time the Indians found the end zone in the contest. The Titans took the ensuing kickoff back to tie the score, then scored twice more capitalizing off of Indians mistakes to win the game. Head coach Eric Kluver tells KNIA Sports the seniors should be proud of their accomplishments this season, and they will always be a part of the program.

“I’ve always talked about this many times, but there is no better game than the game of football and learning about teamwork, discipline, and hard work. I’m really proud of the 20 seniors, and they’ve left their mark and really elevated our program to new heights.”

Erickson led the way with four receptions for 134 yards and a score, along with an interception on defense. The Indians season comes to a close with a record of 9-2.
