A disastrous second quarter led to the Simpson football team falling to Wartburg in their season finale Saturday 55-23 as heard live on 94.3 KNIA. The Storm held the Knights to just a 7-0 in the first quarter, but gave up 41 second quarter points to trail 48-0 at halftime. Simpson did what they could to get back into the contest, outscoring Wartburg 23-7 in the third quarter, but it was far too little too late. Head coach Matt Jeter says he challenged his guys at halftime to go out and perform for the 17 seniors, and he thinks the way they played in the second half should be something to build on for the offseason.

“When you win its fun. You want to come out here and have some enthusiasm and joy to be able to play the game of football. I told them, we have 17 seniors who aren’t going to get to play again, so you want to come out and put your stamp on the game whether you are up 44-0 or down 44-0.”

The Storm end the season with a 1-9 record overall, and 1-7 in American Rivers Conference play.
