A new era begins this season for PCM’s girls’ basketball squad as they introduce Sami Allison-Rodriguez as their new head coach.
Allison-Rodriguez brings ten years of assistant-coaching experience to the Mustangs. She is originally from Fairfield and played Division I College Basketball at St. Francis University in Pennsylvania. Allison-Rodriguez spent seven years as an assistant coach across three east-coast universities. She was an assistant at her alma mater, St. Francis, Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York, and Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. After getting her masters’ degree, Allison-Rodriguez returned to Iowa and was an assistant for three years at the University of Northern Iowa. Allison-Rodriguez states that she took the job at PCM because she believes she has a lot to offer this young team.
“I think that I have a lot to offer these kids. I don’t know what that is going to look like in terms of wins and losses but I love the game. I think that I can help them build confidence on and off the floor. They are a great group of kids. I know some of their parents from being in the community and I was really excited to give it a try and see what we can do.
Allison-Rodriguez brings a players’ coach mentality to a PCM squad that finished 4-17 in 2020-21. The Mustangs open the season Saturday at home against Chariton.
