A former Pleasantville police officer has been charged with alleged sexual abuse of a minor.

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, 30-year old Alec Veatch faces one count each of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, a Class C felony, Lascivious Acts with a Minor, and Enticing a Minor, a class D felony.

On November 12th, at the request of the Pleasantville Police Department, Division of Criminal Investigation agents began a criminal investigation into allegations of sexual contact between a then-police officer working for the Pleasantville PD and a 15-year-old juvenile.

This week, members of the Department of Public Safety arrested Veatch at his Norwalk home. Veatch was transported to the Jasper County Jail on a $17,000 bond. He has since posted bond and been released.

Pleasantville Police Chief Joe Mrstik says “Members of the Pleasantville Police Departments are held to the same standards everyone else is, and he is accountable for his actions.” Veatch, whose employment with the department began in May, has been terminated from the Department. None of the incidents occurred while he was on duty.”

This is an ongoing criminal investigation and additional charges will be filed. Anyone with information concerning this investigation is asked to contact the Iowa DCI at 515.725.0030.
