It took just 19 minutes for the Knoxville Wrestling Squad to finish off a 66-18 win over Nevada on Thursday night in the Panthers’ season opener. The Cubs were without several key wrestlers and forfeited six weight classes. The Panthers won every match by fall with Steven Thome, Luke Spaur, Kale Kincaid, Trenton Kingery and Steven Metcalf getting on mat victories. Spaur tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it was not bad for the first time out and knocked the rust off.

Spaur: “First match is mainly just getting nerves out of the way, and you just want to execute your plan and win.”

Knoxville is 1-0 in dual meets and will travel to Nodaway Valley for a meet on Saturday.

Balanced scoring was key in the Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad’s first road win of the season Thursday night in a 47-41 victory over Van Meter. The Panthers kept the Bulldogs at arm’s length for most of the game managing a six point lead most of the way. Emma Dunkin led in scoring with 13 points while Larissa Wells had ten. Knoxville is now 2-0 on the season and will host Oskaloosa Saturday afternoon, a game you can hear live on 95.3 KNIA at 2:30.
