The Pella Christian basketball teams traveled to PCM Monday night, and the Eagles swept the Mustangs as heard live on 92.1 KRLS. The Pella Christian girls defeated PCM 50-29, and the Eagles boys team downed the Mustangs 78-48.

In the girls’ basketball game, Pella Christian guard Joslyn Terpstra led all scorers pouring in 23 of the Eagles 50 points. Emri Agre scored nine points and Faith Kacmarynski had five points in the Eagles victory. PCM was led in scoring by Paige Steenhoek and Riley Johannes who each contributed eight points for the Mustangs. The Mustangs struggled with turning the ball over on offense, and PCM Head Coach Sami Allison-Rodriguez said that the team will look forward to putting together a better game against Saydel on Tuesday.

“The positive thing is we can come back tomorrow and prove that we can do better than what we did tonight. Defensively, I was fine with our effort, unfortunately our turnovers just led to way too many points for them, and we just couldn’t keep up with it. So, we have to take care of the ball like we can. I know these girls can do better than what we did tonight. We’ll come out tomorrow and give it another shot.”

Pella Christian improved to 2-2 on the season with the win and PCM fell to 0-5 on the season in the loss.

In the night cap, Pella Christian guard Tysen De Vries and forward Eric Mulder had their best games of the early season, each scoring 20 points in leading the Eagles boys to a victory. Carson Vandelune led PCM in scoring with 13 points, and Matt Rosonke tied his season high with 12 points. The Eagles had nine different players score in the contest, and Pella Christian Head Coach J.D. Boer said that the depth of his team makes it difficult to gameplan for the Eagles.

“We play 10 guys because all 10 are good players, and all 10 of them have the ability to go out there and do some things for us on the offensive end and defensive end. Tonight, it was Tysen’s night and Eric’s night and hopefully moving forward it will be other guys nights too.”

Pella Christian remained unbeaten on the year with the win improving to 3-0 on the season. The Eagles girls’ team will return to action on Thursday when they host Van Meter, while the Pella Christian boys will wait until Friday when they travel to Indianola.

PCM fell to 1-3 on the season. Neither PCM team will wait long to try and jump back in the win column as they host Saydel tonight. Both Mustangs games can be heard live on the KRLS3 stream at KNIAKRLS.com beginning at 6 pm.
