PCM’s basketball squads will be back on the road tonight as they travel to Greene County, while the Mustangs’ wrestling squad will have a Heart of Iowa Conference triangular at Nevada.
The Mustangs’ girls’ basketball squad is coming off their first win of the season, a 55-28 dominating victory over Saydel Tuesday night. PCM will look to turn that win into a winning streak tonight in Jefferson. PCM lost their only matchup with Greene County last season in overtime, 34-27. The Mustangs have won 18 of their last 20 matchups with the Rams, with their last win coming in January 2020.
The Mustangs’ boys’ basketball squad is coming off a 20-point victory over Saydel Tuesday night, which was their first Heart of Iowa Conference victory of the year. PCM currently sits at 2-3 on the season, with the other victory coming opening night at Knoxville. The Mustangs knocked off Greene County in their only matchup last season, winning 63-51. PCM has also won the last seven matchups with the Rams. Coach Fred Lorenson tells KRLS Sports that he is keeping his eye on the Rams’ Jesse Miller, Bryce Stalder, and Richard Daugherty returning from last season.
“They’ve got three really good players, the other kids I am sure, but they’ve got three really good ones. They have a 6’4” Miller kid that is a wing player that plays well and plays inside and outside. They got a really good point guard, their quarterback in football, who is the Stalder kid. He’s very good. They have another wing player, Daugherty I think his name is. He’s a really good shooter who hasn’t shot the ball well yet, which always concerns me. I think he was 0-for-7 in their last game.”
The doubleheader begins with the girls’ game tipping off at 6:00 PM.
The Mustangs’ wrestling squad will have their first triangular of the season with both matches coming against Heart of Iowa Conference opponents. PCM will go up against Nevada and West Marshall at Nevada High School. The Mustangs’ dual record is currently at 1-5, with their only dual win coming against Van Meter. PCM also finished 13th at the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustang Invitational last weekend.
The triangular at Nevada High School will begin at 5:30 PM.
