With winter in full swing, residents may find physical fitness tougher to achieve with fewer outdoor activities to do. Knoxville Recreation Center Wellness Supervisor Angie Jones says that while the rec center is a great place to work out, there are simple things people can do inside their homes.

“We want you here, we think this is a great place to come to. But there’s always things you can do in your home. Take the stairs a couple times a day. When you are sitting and doing projects, crafts, reading a book, get up and walk around the house a little bit every 15 minutes. You can do lots of body weight exercises, like pushups and squats. People do those every day without even realizing they’re doing exercise.”

Jones says while these activities are good to do at home, they can partake in a variety of activities at the rec center for an affordable membership fee. Learn more about the opportunities at the Knoxville Recreation Center on an upcoming Ask the Expert.
