The Norwalk Warriors dropped a pair of games Tuesday evening to the Dallas Center-Grimes (DCG) Mustangs 61-42 in the girls contest and 70-64 in a four overtime thriller in the boys game.

In the girls contest DCG would command the game throughout with timely shooting as three Mustangs would score in double figures lead by junior Emma Miner who would finish with a game high twenty three points. Norwalk would be able to cut the DCG lead down to nine, but as soon as the Warriors would feel as though they were coming back, DCG would go on a quick run and push the lead back to double figures. Norwalk would be led on the night by senior Jocelyn Brice who would finish with twenty two points respectfully with no other Warrior finishing in double figures.

The schedule doesn’t get any easier for Norwalk as they will now play host to Indianola on Friday.

In the boys game, DCG would start the game with a haymaker shooting out to a quick 8-0 run before Coach Aaron Pelzer would call a timeout to calm his young team down. Following the timeout Norwalk would go on a 15-0 run to finish the quarter leading 15-8. After both teams got their runs out of the way the teams would settle in for an old fashioned Little Hawkeye Conference slugfest trading points back and forth as Norwalk would lead by just one point at the halftime break 28-27.

Norwalk would be led on the night by sophomore Redek Born who would finish with twenty three points but it was the play of junior Jack Brown and his eight early point including two clutch three pointers that would be the x-factor in the match up. Counter that with a poor shooting night for DCG and it was no question these two teams would have to settle the game in extra time.

Following a missed opportunity by Born at the end of regulation, the two teams would continue to trade points through four overtimes before DCG would finally push the lead to above four points in the final overtime which would prove to be too much for Norwalk to overcome. DCG would finish off the Warriors from the free throw line on their way to the six point win.

Despite the outcome Coach Pelzeer tells KNIA Sports he loved the way his guys fought throughout the game. Coach Pelzer says that with this game Norwalk has now set the bar for the amount of fight they need to bring night in and night out and anything less is unacceptable in his and his player’s minds.

Norwalk moves to 5-5 overall with another tough test against their Warren County rival on Friday as they play host to Indianola.
