The Knoxville City Council is giving some downtown business owners an opportunity to improve their storefronts. The council heard a presentation from the Iowa Economic Development Authority, who identified the needed removal of metal slipcovers on downtown storefronts to be eligible for State and Federal funding programs. The city created a municipally funded Downtown Façade Program to help fund the removal of the metal slipcovers. Knoxville City Manager Heather Ussery tells KNIA/KRLS News how it works.

“We have a revolving loan fund currently that we’ve had for many years, but it hasn’t been utilized in over a decade. There’s about $115,000 currently in that fund and so we’d like to see how we can reallocate those funds and make an impact for our downtown.”
