The Knoxville Home School Assistance Program and Rainbow Resource Center are sponsoring “A Date with Charlotte Mason” on Saturday, February 19th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Knoxville Home School Assistance Program Coordinator Stacy Picard tells KNIA/KRLS News that the event will look into the principles and philosophy of Charlotte Mason’s homeschool movement.
“Charlotte Mason had 20 principles that she wrote down. And so, she was reacting against the idea that kids were just little vessels that you dumped knowledge into, but that you had to view them, respect them, honor them as persons, that they weren’t your little beings to mold into what you wanted them to be but you needed to respect who they were created to be and try to help them develop a discipline of learning, and develop a wonder for the world around them.”
Picard says that Jami Marstall will be the guest speaker at “A Date with Charlotte Mason”, and that Marstall has worked with the principles for a long time.
“She has been studying Charlotte Mason for years, and Jami has done marvelous things in learning about Charlotte Mason, applying Charlotte Mason’s principles in her own homeschool, and then she has helped many other homeschool moms access Charlotte Mason’s ideas and implement them in their homeschools as well. So, I’m really excited that she is willing to come over and teach us all about Charlotte Mason’s principles.”
The event will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 814 W. Pleasant Street in Knoxville and is free and open to the public. For optional registration email stacy.picard@kcsd.k12.ia.us.
