indianola-8

The Indianola girls and boys basketball teams continued their winning streaks on the road at Newton Tuesday evening, the girls winning 61-38 and the boys 72-59 in a doubleheader heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians girls faced several periods of ice-cold shooting from outside, but still earned a 16-6 first quarter lead, and a 27-16 halftime advantage. The Cardinals began to climb back into the game in the third cutting the lead down to two possession at multiple points, but the Indians still earned a 41-28 lead going into the fourth quarter, and scored 20 points to put the Cardinals away. Lauren Blake led all scorers with 24 points, while Emily Naughton and Brynn Ortlund each scored 14.

The Indians boys had to fight to stay ahead throughout the first half with the Cardinals, jumping on top 19-13 after the first and 31-27 at halftime. With the game hovering around a four-point Indianola lead, the Indians went on a massive run that extended through the early fourth quarter to take a 20+ point advantage that would end with both teams emptying the bench to play out the final minutes. Head coach Jeff Ebling tells KNIA Sports his team knows that when they play good defense they turn that into points, so it is good to see the squad be able to buckle down and play the way they want to.

Drew Kingery scored 26 points, with 20 of those coming in the second half, while Brayden Drea scored 17.

The girls improve to 15-4 overall and 11-2 in conference play, while the boys are 13-4 and 10-3. Both teams host Warren County rival Norwalk on Friday.
