The Indianola and Norwalk girls and boys track and field teams head to the Bear Athletic Center in Grinnell for the Little Hawkeye Conference Indoor Meet today, getting an early look at the top athletes in one of the most competitive conferences in the area.

The Indians boys and girls are reigning conference champions, with both teams bringing back loads of talent that competed at the state level. Girls Head Coach Kim Arndt says what is just as important as athletic talent, is the team culture that this year’s squad has developed.

“I love everyday going to practice. They show up, they are bubbly and giggly, their girls, but they also work really hard. That really makes it fun, you don’t have any issues with discipline, because the kids want to be there and they are willing to put the time and effort in to get better. As coaches we are all having a good time so far.”

Norwalk also brings back a squad with top finish aspirations, after qualifying a combined 24 events to the state meet last year including junior Claire Farrell who competed in four events at the Drake Blue Oval, winning a class 4A state championship in the 400m.

Action starts today at 4pm.
