The remarkable tradition of excellence continued Tuesday for the Pella High School band programs — with a win three years in the making.

Pella Jazz I earned the school’s 19th-ever Class 3A State Championship, while Pella Jazz Orchestra placed 5th among 3A teams at the Iowa Jazz Championships in Ames. It’s the first time in school history two ensembles from Pella attended the showcase of the state’s best jazz bands. Both placed in the top five of 15 schools competing from all over the state, and this is the 38th consecutive year Pella has earned a top-four placement at the event. Tyler Mifflin of Pella was recognized as one of four outstanding musicians from Class 3A at the event.

This the first time ever that one high school had two bands place in the Top 5 in one class at Iowa Jazz Championships. Hear more from Pella Jazz Orchestra and Pella Jazz I on Monday’s Let’s Talk Pella.
