There are many different types of scams that people are using to try and get your personal information or money. Knoxville Police Office Kyle Keller spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about social media scams.

“Fake friend requests are a huge thing. Anytime you’re friends with someone and you receive a second friend request from a different account you need to question it. Reach out to that friend and ask if they created a second account. Chances are this is a scam and they will try to send you things and try to steal your information. Something else to be aware of on social media or even text messaging is someone will try and friend you or build a rapport with you or men as they can be a victim of this. An attractive female claiming they want to exchange nude photos with you and they ask for your photo and you send it to them and they start to blackmail you.”

For social media scams, you can report false accounts to that social media platform.
