The #9 in 2A Pella girls soccer team fell too far behind against #11 Carlisle and couldn’t complete the comeback against the Wildcats 3-2 Thursday evening.

The Dutch defense could not solve the road team early, as Carlisle pounced for three goals in the first 15 minutes of action. Pella settled in defensively, but the damage had been done, and didn’t find many scoring chances until after the halftime break. A scramble around the goal allowed Abby Warner to sneak the first tally into the net, and Anneka Stoltzfus scored another later in the half. As time hit under one minute, Pella found an excellent chance to grab a score, with a corner hit by Eliza Van Zee nearly setting up a point-blank header chance, but the Wildcats keeper converted a tough save. A busy Haley Van Houweling tallied 16 saves.

Pella falls to 4-2 and seeks a bounce back at home against #7 Waverly-Shell Rock for alumni day Saturday at 11 a.m., with former Dutch players having free entry to the top ten showdown.
