The 4th graders from Pella Christian Grade School held mock City Council meetings with Mayor Don DeWaard and City Clerk Mandy Smith earlier this week. The classes elected their own council members, who then chose to discuss whether or not Pella should have a dog park. After the mock City Council meeting adjourned, the classes were surprised with a visit from the newest employee of the Pella Police Department, K-9 Unit Ellie, and her handler, Senior Officer Hunter Boertje. According to Smith, Ellie enjoyed getting to meet the kids and she also showed off some of the skills she learned while in training at Tree Town Kennels.
