Sunday, May 15 is Peace Officer memorial day, a day that pays tribute to the local, state, and federal peace officers who have died, or who have been disabled, in the line of duty.

Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about the day.

“Peace Officer Memorial Day is May 15. In 1962, President Kennedy dedicated May 15 every year as Peace Officer Memorial Day. Other agencies have piggybacked off of it and then created Police Week and now Peace Officer Memorial day falls with Police Week.”

From Marion County, Knoxville Officer M.A. “Bert” Conrey, and  Knoxville Officer Virgil Behrens died on duty.
