The Indianola softball team swept Grinnell 8-3 and 14-9 on the road at Grinnell Monday evening, while the Indians baseball squad handed #2 in class 3A Grinnell their first loss of the season with a 5-4 win in game one and falling 4-2 in game two heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Indians softball team fell behind early 2-0 in the first inning, before tying the score at two in the third with a Mara Bishop two-run shot, however the Tigers reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning 3-2. Indianola then went on to score the next six runs over the next four innings on a Hanna Graham RBI hit, an Izzy Sloan two-run bomb, an Izzie Benge RBI double, and a Jordyn Gripp homer.

Game two saw the Indians again go down 2-0 early, tying the score with a run each in the second and third on a Bishop hit and a Sloan sacrifice fly, before exploding in the fourth for five runs including another Gripp homer and a Kiley Kindelspire single, then added another seven runs to earn the win with hits from Kindelspire, Sloan, and a third Gripp home run of the night.

The Indians improve to 7-4 on the season winning five in a row, and play Oskaloosa tomorrow night.

The Indians baseball squad took a 3-0 lead over 13-0 Grinnell in the first inning with hits from Brady Blake, Jack Strong, Bennett Brueck, and Gavin Legg. The Tigers came back to tie the score in the fourth, and that score held until the sixth when the Indians scored on a fielding error and a Ethan Grimsrud RBI single. The Tigers fought back in the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch and having the tying run at third, but Brueck struck out the final batter to win the game.

Game two again saw Indianola take the early lead, as Blake drew a walk and was drove in by Legg, but Grinnell scored four unanswered runs to take a commanding lead. Blake scored another run in the fifth on a Casey Stecker sacrifice fly, but the Indians were never able to threaten again.

Indianola baseball is now 10-6 on the season, and will also host Oskaloosa tomorrow.
