indianola-8

The Indianola softball and baseball teams swept Oskaloosa in Little Hawkeye Conference play on Wednesday, softball winning 10-0 in five innings and baseball winning 10-8.

The Indians softball team jumped all over Oskaloosa from the start in their contest, scoring a run in the first inning on an error, then Jordyn Gripp hit a solo shot to start the second following by hits from Selia Becker and Hanna Graham as the Indians took a 4-0 lead going into the third. The Indians added another four in the fourth with five straight singles from Graham, Kyra Robbins, Mara Bishop, Brynn Ortlund, and Kiley Kindelspire.

Gripp added another home run in the fifth, then after several more hits Ortlund hit a walkoff single to end the game early. Gripp’s two homers were the fourth and fifth in the last three games for the junior, and she tells KNIA Sports she trusted her own abilities as the season went on, and things have worked out.

“I just started seeing the ball better. I wasn’t starting off great in the season, so I changed my mentality going up to the plate and seeing the ball better, going up there with more confidence has worked.”

Indianola has won six in a row and improves to 8-4 on the season, and 4-1 in Little Hawkeye Conference play. They will travel to Ottumwa today for a single game at 7pm.

Indianola baseball looked to be in full control over Osky early, building an 8-0 lead through the first three innings, getting a two-run homerun in the first from Bennett Brueck, an RBI hit from Lane McGraw, and a five run third inning that featured hits from Casey Stecker and Andrew DeWall, and drawing six walks.

Osky did not go away quietly however, scoring three in the fourth, but Indianola scored two more in the bottom of the inning with hits from Stecker and Gavin Legg and seemingly had things fully in control. Osky scored another five runs in the fifth to get back within two at 10-8, but the Indians held on for the win.

Indianola improves to 10-6, and they play a doubleheader against Newton on Friday.
