The deadline for storefront and facade improvement grants has passed. Knoxville Economic Development Director Glenn Lyons spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about the response to the program.

“This is unprecedented, we have never seen a response like this. These are small grants that are designed for modest improvements. There are 40 buildings in the downtown area that are eligible to apply and we have received as many as 24 applications, that include the 10 that have been approved and 14 more that will need to be reviewed and could go to council for approval.”

The city is reviewing applications that came in at the deadline and if they are all approved the city would have approved $120,000 of the $165,000 that was allocated for the program.
